Fish Farming Expert asked well-known figures in the Scottish salmon farming industry about their high and low points of 2018, and what they hope for in 2019.

What was your best moment/occasion of 2018?

Given both the growing recognition of the fantastic work of our brilliant team and the environmental challenges we have overcome, I’d like to suggest Loch Duart being named a Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200 company as well as further improvement of our fantastic sea lice control figures throughout 2018, resulting in a multi-site farming operation with virtually no lice for the whole year.

And what was the worst?

The 16 weeks of drought and high temperatures throughout the summer brought incredible farming and biological issues to Loch Duart and the industry as a whole but these were challenged superbly by our dedicated employees.

What’s the one thing you’d most like to see happen to benefit salmon farming in 2019?

A more collaborative and less confrontational relationship between all the various stakeholders with an interest in the marine environment, as together we have an opportunity and responsibility to communicate, collaborate and compromise to achieve positive and long-lasting impacts for our environment, our animal welfare and our vital communities.
