Loch Duart Sponsors a Winner

Loch Duart sponsors a winner and is proud to congratulate mountain biker, Kerry Macphee, on her brilliant victory in the British Mountain Bike.

Kerry, who hails from South Uist in the Outer Hebrides where Loch Duart farms much of its award-winning salmon, completed the demanding 75km course in 4:31:08, finishing a clear two minutes ahead of her nearest rival and is delighted with what was an unexpected win.

“I am absolutely delighted, super chuffed with the win, but still quite shocked.

“I worked really hard for it and have been putting in some solid training ahead of the cross country World Cups coming up.

“As a cross-country rider I wanted to get ahead from the start in order to avoid any problems at the more technical sections.

“I passed Lee [Craigie] on the first climb and kept that position to the end. The plan paid off. What a great day!”

Kerry tested low in Vitamin D earlier in the year and is eating lots of Loch Duart salmon to make up for her lack of exposure to sunshine this winter.

“I have been eating a lot of salmon and Vitamin D rich foods as well as supplementing to get my levels back up. It is something we overlook in Scotland we don’t get proper exposure to sunshine in the winter. I was quite shocked to test so low as I’m outdoors on my bike far more than the average person, I just hadn’t appreciated that the Scottish sun is so weak, so diet really is key for us.

Anyhow, I’m sure I’ll catch up properly soon. Next up for me is the 3rd British series race on 17 May and then I head out to Czech Republic for my first World Cup, followed by Germany the following weekend! Very exciting. There are races in Switzerland and Italy in the pipeline too.

In July I will be heading out to Jersey for the World Island Games and my sister is going to be racing too. I will be aiming for a podium and there is a team medal up for grabs which we hope to win too.”

Everyone at Loch Duart wishes Kerry the very best for the demanding season ahead.
